Two Old Friends Having Tea By The Sea

This is a contemplative scene. Her headdress is shaped like a sea shell. This spirit being, with a face of natural gray and tan with indigo highlights, has a headdress with a sacred room on her forehead. In the room, two old friends meet by the sea to have tea together.

The face is handwoven in Merrill's Zati method with brown and light tan handspun twined into 2-ply yarn, handwoven and shaped off the loom. Accents at the cheeks and eyelids are dyed different shades of blue with wild indigo. The figures are wet-felted of wool, with light madder and tea-dyed faces. One old friend has turquoise and antique beads accenting her dress. A crocheted natural white wool basket lies at the entrance to the room, with a rose quartz bead and a shell from our nearby beach. The headdress is delicately lined in waving shapes of needle-felted light blue lines, dyed with wild indigo, and topped with a soft white plume of natural white Maine island wool.
