Epona: She of the Wild Horses
Epona: She of the Wild Horses is a wild sculpture, with a conical headdress sweeping back through Mongolian-style shyrdak designs, outlined in handspun twined borders of natural dark wool, culminating in a ruff of wild Maine island ram's wool. On top of the head are two horses, one white and one black, facing each other in a yin-yang pose.
The face is handwoven in Merrill's Zati method with dark handspun twined into strong 2-ply yarn, perfect for the structure of the three-dimensional faces. Around the face is a band of Bolivian-style round-weave in a chain pattern, with antique Tibetan silver earrings. The face is framed in a black curled shyrdak shape.
