Oma
Oma is created from Maine island wool spun by the artist; linen warp; and merino wool dyed with comfrey leaves, rock lichen, tansy blossoms and burdock leaves. The brown and white band around the face is handspun of natural brown, white, and comfrey/lichen/burdock-dyed yarn. Her face is woven of natural gray and dark brown island wool, woven in stripes that accentuate the center of the face. The ruff is made from lustrous white locks of long-staple island wool.
Oma is redolent of the essence of the plants that gave her their colors. She is serene and authoritative. Viewers have remarked on her calming influence.
