Mother Earth Humming to Her Creatures

Mother Earth Humming to Her Creatures

This sculpture begins with a beautifully sensitive face with a prominent nose and pale lips. Her wide conical white merino headdress is finished with a wild ruff of Maine island ram's woolen hair. The face is haloed with an arch of turquoise and faux coral beads, interspersed with animal totem carvings of fish, otters, bear and turtle of various semiprecious stones such as jasper, onyx, turquoise, and light chalcedony. The atmosphere of this being is of contemplation on her animal children, and inner awareness and peace.

The face is handwoven in Merrill's Zati method with natural white Maine island wool, handspun and twined into strong 2-ply yarn, perfect for the structure of the three-dimensional faces. The lips are merino dyed with madder root.

The sculpture comes with a stand for either table or wall.
